Helen Dent was born to Charles Frederick and Maude Frances (Hochstein) Sawyer on November 27, 1919, in Hudson, Wisconsin. On May 4, 1957, she married Howard Dent Jr. in The Dalles, OR, then moved to Gardiner in 1959 with her husband. He preceded her in death in April 1974.

Dent attended business school to become a legal secretary, and was instrumental in developing the Mains Farm in Sequim and Sunshine Acres in Diamond Point. She also bred shorthorn cattle, and was an avid Seattle Seahawks and Mariners fan.

In 1990 Dent was involved in a lawsuit with Diamond Point Airport Association over the transfer of certain properties owned by Sunshine Acres to DPAA.

At age 87 she built her last spec home in Sunshine Acres before retiring. Helen Dent, 91, of Gardiner, WA passed away June 3, 2011, in Port Angeles.
